“Education in our times must try to find whatever there is in students that might yearn for completion, and to reconstruct the learning that would enable them autonomously to seek that completion.” –Allan Bloom
Howdy! My name is Shakira Guillory, and I am deeply honored to be a part of your child’s educational journey. Here, at Progressive High School, I am a teacher of English and Language Arts through the educational program, Compass Learning as well as modular classes. Specifically, I teach English 1 through English 4. In addition to classroom teaching, I work predominantly with students who will be taking the English/Language Arts portion of the TAKS test. I attempt to model and teach students test-taking skills and strategies that can be applied to standardized tests as well as tests within their content area classes. Originally, I received my Bachelor’s of Arts degree with a concentration in English at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Currently, I am working on my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction through Western Governor's University. It is my goal to challenge students based on an educational philosophy that all students are capable of learning and achieving; it is all a matter of discovering their interests, their learning style, and their strengths to build upon. I truly hope to convey my love of literature and education through my enthusiasm and continual positive reinforcement. |
