English II
Students enrolled in English II continue to increase and refine their communication skills. Students plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis, including reports, and research projects. Students also edit their papers for clarity, engaging language, and the correct use of the conventions and mechanics of written English, producing final, error-free drafts. An emphasis is placed on persuasive forms of writing such as logical arguments, expressions of opinions, and personal forms of writing. Students read extensively in multiple genres from world literature. Students also learn literary forms and terms associated with selections being read.
Prerequisite: English I One Credit Communication Applications
Students enrolled in Communication Applications will be expected to identify, analyze, develop, and evaluate communication skills needed for professional and social success in interpersonal situations, group interactions and formal presentations.
Prerequisite : None One Half Credit Reading II/III
Reading II offers students instruction in word recognition, comprehension strategies and vocabulary to ensure that high school students have an opportunity to read with competence, confidence, and understanding. The course includes reading test taking and study strategies in content area subjects.
Prerequisite: Reading I One Half-One Credit Reading III offers students instruction in word recognition, comprehension strategies and vocabulary to ensure that high school students have an opportunity to read with competence, confidence, and understanding in increasingly demanding texts. Students learn specific strategies in content area reading. Students engage in systematic study and learn how to formulate and support responses to various types of printed materials.
